St Anthony Gardens: Reopening on the Horizon
Supported by the Future High Streets Fund as part of the Government’s Towns Fund, St Anthony Gardens in Penzance are being thoughtfully reimagined into an appreciated, accessible community asset — one that balances heritage with modern everyday use. With steady progress made on site, the space is now expected to reopen to the public later this summer.
What’s Changing at St Anthony Gardens?
As we make progress, here’s a reminder of the key improvements being delivered:
• Retention of most original stone walls and repositioning of the iconic archway to enhance accessibility
• British Standard-compliant pathways for inclusive access throughout the gardens
• Upgraded seating areas offering breath-taking views over Mount’s Bay and Penzance Harbour
• New open spaces for wellbeing activities, events, and informal recreation
• Installation of two boules courts to encourage social play and community engagement
• Biodiverse planting to support local wildlife and create year-round interest
• Full restoration of the existing historic fountain
What’s Next: Coinagehall Street
Following the garden’s reopening later this summer, attention will turn to the adjacent former Taylor’s Garage site. This next phase of development will deliver:
• 36 homes – a mix of affordable, shared ownership, and open market properties with restrictions on holiday let use
• Seven business units designed to support local enterprise and economic growth
This multi-phase project is supported by the Future High Streets Fund as part of the Government’s Towns Fund initiative and reflects Treveth’s continued commitment to building places that put people and community first.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to enjoy the newly improved gardens in late summer. In the meantime, scroll down to see the latest progress through our photo gallery.
