Treveth invites community to informal drop-in session to meet the team behind the Penwinnick Road, St Austell regeneration scheme
Cornish developer Treveth, which is committed to creating thriving, sustainable communities for local people through the provision of high-quality affordable homes, work and commercial spaces, is set to regenerate a key area of St Austell on Penwinnick Road.
Members of the local community are invited to attend an informal drop-in session – taking place on Wednesday 12th June, 2pm to 7pm, at The Cornwall Hotel, Pentewan Road, St Austell, PL26 7AB – to meet the team who will bring forward the scheme.
Since its launch in 2019, Treveth has been building high-quality new build homes, sustainable communities, and commercial developments in partnership with Cornwall Council to directly benefit people who live and work in Cornwall.
The Penwinnick Road scheme, funded by Treveth, will see Treveth deliver much-needed new homes for local people. This will include a range of 1, 2, 3 and 4-bed homes, delivering affordable and open market rental properties, as well as homes to buy. Supported by the provision of a small local commercial centre on site, job opportunities will be created as part of the mixed-use scheme. Green spaces will also feature in the future design for the site, retaining and enhancing those from the now demolished, former Cornwall Council offices.
As part of Treveth’s commitment to benefiting people who live and work in Cornwall, the new residential properties at Penwinnick Road will be prioritised for locals who live, work or have family connections in the immediate vicinity of St Austell, discouraging second home ownership.
Playing its part in shaping Cornwall’s communities and places to positively benefit local people living and working in Cornwall, Penwinnick Road is the latest scheme to be brought forward by the B Corp accredited Cornish developer, and the first for Treveth in the town of St Austell.
Designs for the scheme, which are currently evolving, will be shaped by feedback from the community and stakeholders over the coming months prior to the submission of a planning application for the site.
Emma Rodgers, Senior Development Manager at Treveth, commented: “We’re looking forward to regenerating this 3.7ha site on Penwinnick Road through the delivery of a mixed-use scheme incorporating both residential and commercial properties.
“Over the coming months we’ll actively engage with the general public and key stakeholders, enabling our team to build a richer understanding of the needs of the local community. Providing invaluable knowledge, this process will help to inform the plans for the scheme, enabling us to deliver proposals that regenerate this important part of St Austell for the benefit of Cornish residents choosing to live and work in the local area.”
The informal drop-in on 12th June will be the first of several events prior to the submission of the planning application for Penwinnick Road later this year.
Dates for public consultation events about the planning application, where local residents can receive more information and have a say about the regeneration of the area, will be announced later in the year.
Founded by Cornwall Council in 2019, Treveth now manages 135 properties across 6 developments and 48 units across 10 commercial sites.
Treveth was established to improve the quality of rented accommodation and to increase the availability of homes across the rental, shared ownership and private rental sectors for those who live, work in, or have family connections in the immediate vicinity of its sites. Treveth currently has over 286 homes in build for local residents in Tolgus, Liskeard, Newquay, and Bodmin.
Treveth has successfully managed and sold properties transferred from Cornwall Council, creating thriving communities which include Heathlands View, Bodmin; The Coppers, Tolvaddon and Tregover, Newquay.
The site at Penwinnick Road was acquired by Treveth from Cornwall Council in Autumn 2023.
