Update on Regeneration of Coinagehall Street and St Anthonys Gardens
As we begin the New Year, Treveth is pleased to share an update on the ongoing regeneration of St Anthony Gardens and the adjacent Coinagehall Street area in Penzance.
St Anthony Gardens – Progress Update
Work on St Anthony Gardens is now well underway, with improvements on track for completion by mid-to-late Spring 2025.
The plans for St Anthonys Gardens include retention of the majority of the original walls and relocating the original archway to a more accessible location; making the gardens more inclusive of all users by introducing British Standard compliant access routes; an increase in the amount of seating in the gardens and maximising the enjoyment of views of both bays; event space and lawns to increase community use for health & wellbeing; two boules courts; revitalising and increasing planting in the gardens to increase biodiversity; and reinstating the existing fountain for it to be fully operational.
What’s Next: Coinagehall Street Development
In 2024, Treveth consulted with the public and key stakeholders from the Penzance community to gather feedback—and amended and evolved the proposals for the former Taylors Garage site after a long period of it falling into disrepair.
Treveth’s new mixed-use scheme for the site received planning approval in May 2024. The new scheme will create a development of 36 homes and space for seven businesses alongside the revitalisation of St Anthony Gardens to create much-needed homes for local people, as well as space for vibrant local businesses and bring life back into this important destination location in Penzance.
The scheme will consist of 11 affordable homes, including 3 shared ownership homes, 16 open market rental homes restricted to locals and 9 homes for open market sale (with restrictions that prevent them from being rented as holiday lets) and 7 commercial properties.
Treveth will be making contributions as part of its S106 agreement to Transport, Education and Healthcare for the local community.
The works to the gardens and surrounding public realm have been awarded Future High Street Funding by the Government. In keeping with Treveth’s ethos for building sustainable low-carbon developments, these homes and commercial spaces are designed to reduce running costs for occupants through the use of low-carbon technologies.
