Demolition clears the way for Pydar’s future
September will mark the start of the next phase of preparation works to transform Truro’s Pydar area into a new community.
The four-month project will see the remaining buildings on the site – the former Hardy Carpets and Roseland Furniture stores, along with Circuit House and Truro Bowl – demolished and the area cleared to make way for Pydar’s next chapter.
Over the last few months, expert contractors have been on the site safely removing materials such as asbestos and utility services. The work is expected to start early September and to be completed by the end of the year.
The site is now owned and managed by Treveth.
Local community members and interested parties are invited to meet representatives from Treveth, along with Weaver Demolition and Truro-based project management contractors, Coreus, at a series of Meet and Greet drop-in sessions. As well as chance to find out more about the preparation works, the informal sessions will provide the opportunity to ask questions. There’s no need to register, just drop by at the following times:
Thursday 28th August, 3pm-5pm: Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, 25 River Street, Truro TR1 2SJ
Thursday 4th September, 6pm-8pm: Lily’s of Truro Cafe, 21 Pydar Street, Truro TR1 2AY
Dorian Smith of Weaver Demolition comments: “The preparation works are an exciting milestone for the future of Truro. By removing the existing buildings which have been stood empty for a number of years, we’re clearing the site for much-needed housing, green space, jobs and investment.
“The activity has been planned to minimise disruption to roads and pavements and to local businesses and residents. We welcome anyone interested to come along to our Meet and Greet sessions to find out more.”
