Final phase of demolition work starts at Pydar site, Truro
The final phase of demolition work at the Pydar Street site in Truro has started, clearing the way for Treveth’s multi-million pound development plans.
Weaver Demolition is leading the way and removing the derelict buildings which include Truro Bowl, Circuit House, and the former Hardy Carpets and Roseland Furniture stores.
Demolition work is expected to be completed by December, ready for archaeologists to survey the site before the ground is levelled.
Treveth is currently amending its plans for the Pydar site, working within the outline planning consent already granted. Plans are being updated to reflect the current economy and the Building Safety Act 2022.
Tim Mulholland, Managing Director at Treveth, met journalists on site this week to discuss the work that is currently being undertaken and what the future holds for this much-anticipated scheme. Cornwall Live and BBC News both covered the story.
Tim commented: “It’s exciting that the last phase of work is finally underway to clear the Pydar site which has stalled in recent years. We first started talking about the scheme in 2016 but there was a lot of content in those original plans that we can no longer deliver today. The new plans work around the same outline planning consent, but will ensure that we are compliant with the new Building Safety Act which came in after the Grenfell Tower fire.
“We’re looking at submitting a more residential-led scheme in spring 2026 with the hope that permission will be granted by the summer. Of course, there are still some challenges. Inflation is still very high and we need this to come down to make the site viable. We remain optimistic and hope that we can regenerate this area of Truro soon, making new homes available to local people and injecting life back into this part of the city centre.”
Pydar will be home to multi-generational housing and a new innovative learning and living environment to help grow the local Truro economy. Plans will include more green space, jobs and investment with a mix of housing tenures.
