Meet the local business behind the interior design of Treveth’s Gwel Basset show home
Since opening the doors to our first show home at Gwel Basset, Tolgus, we have been delighted to receive such positive feedback from house hunters who have booked an appointment to view the property.
Located opposite Redruth School, the Gwel Basset show home is the three bedroom Lamorna house style. Visitors have discovered its spacious open plan ground floor with the kitchen, dining and living area all flowing seamlessly together with French doors leading out onto the rear garden. Upstairs, there are three spacious bedrooms and a family bathroom with the master bedroom boasting an en-suite shower room.
To bring the home to life, we asked the interior design experts at Furniture World to decorate the Lamorna show home, allowing house hunters to truly imagine what life could look like inside a new home at Gwel Basset.
Based in Redruth, Furniture World was founded in the early 1980’s and has grown from selling furniture from a family barn to running additional stores in Redruth, Newquay, St. Austell and Plymouth. The company sells everything from fitted carpets to soft furnishings and accessories.
We sat down with Jo Fielder, Online Sales Manager at Furniture World, to chat all things interior design. Read on to also discover how Furniture World works with housebuilders like Treveth.
Hi Jo! For the reader, tell us about the processes you go through with a housebuilder to bring the vision for their show home to life.
We first sit down with the team for an initial discussion to determine who the property is aimed at. For example, if the show home is aimed at a young family, this would lead us to look into key trends and a price point for the furniture. We can then discuss colour schemes and the overall feel that needs to be created.
Once we have a brief, we create mood boards showcasing the furniture, colours and overall design we are planning to create. Once these are approved by the housebuilder, furniture and accessories will be ordered ready for the fit out to take place.
At Gwel Basset, we enlisted the help of interior stylist Eleanor Stack to bring the ideas to life.
What was your inspiration behind the interior design of the Gwel Basset show home?
We drew plenty of inspiration from the beautiful Cornish coastline. A coastal theme using natural and recycled materials and tones of blue and grey all added to the overall relaxing feel of the home. We also added finishing touches such as framed Cornish prints by Redruth-based Whistlefish, showcasing the best of Cornwall.
How does Furniture World ensure it operates sustainably?
As a company, we are very conscientious regarding sustainability. Many of the products used in the furnishing of the Gwel Basset show home are in fact made from recycled materials.
The dining and living room furniture as well as some of the bedroom storage items are made from reclaimed wood. Our stores and website show the extensive ranges we stock from manufacturers of recycled furniture, mattresses, and upholstery.
Treveth always tries to partner with local companies where it can. In your opinion, why is it important for Cornish businesses to support each other?
It’s so important to work together. When working with local companies, you are not only utilising their knowledge of the area, but you are also supporting the local community. If you get local companies involved with new home developments, you also give them the opportunity to grow their business as enquiries and new customer leads can be generated from those who visit the site. For example, we have tags attached to all of the furniture which has been used throughout the Gwel Basset show home which tells visitors where they can get the furniture from.
Finally, what interior trends are you starting to see coming through in 2023?
Sustainability is still very much on trend. We are seeing more and more manufacturers producing products with environmentally friendly options in mind. Neutral colour schemes are still in vogue with hints of blue and muted tones. This all contributes to creating a very calming and relaxing home. Perfect to blend with the Cornish landscape!
