Treveth has detailed planning consent approved for 50 new homes in Newquay
Cornish developer Treveth has received approval from Cornwall Council on its detailed planning consent for much-needed new homes for local people in Newquay.
The detailed planning consent for the 1.98 hectare scheme at Bedowan Meadows was approved by the planning committee on 31st July 2023 with members voting 10 to one in favour of the development.
Located south of the town and close to the Cornish coastline, the new homes scheme will offer 50 homes to local people who live, work in, or have family connections in the immediate vicinity of the site, discouraging second homeownership.
Tackling the housing crisis in Cornwall, the Bedowan Meadows site will include 17 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership, 21 homes for open market rent and 12 homes for open market sale, meeting the needs of a range of house hunters.
Treveth’s latest site will also offer a variety of house styles including a mix of one and two bedroom flats, one, two and three bedroom bungalows and two, three and four bedroom houses. Properties will enjoy good connections to Newquay town centre, easy access to North Cornwall’s popular beaches and to the A30, providing connections to South Cornwall, Devon and beyond.
Subject to finalising the S106 agreement with Cornwall Council, Treveth will enhance the local community and intends to contribute over £225,000 towards transport, education, health care, public open space, and the Pendale Dunes Special Area of Conservation.
Tim Mulholland, Managing Director at Treveth, commented: “We’re delighted to have received such a strong, positive reception from the planning committee for our detailed planning consent for the upcoming Bedowan Meadows scheme.
“It’s no secret that we are currently experiencing a housing crisis here in Cornwall. There are not enough homes for local people with house hunters struggling to compete with second homeowners. What’s more, the lack of properties available to rent in the region is very concerning which is why schemes such as this are critical to increase the availability of different types of homes for locals. The majority of these homes will be affordable homes, shared ownership or available to rent which is what the Cornish housing market really needs.
“Construction is due to start on these new homes at Bedowan Meadows in spring 2024 and I would urge those interested to keep an eye on Treveth’s website and social media channels for updates, in addition to signing up to the mailing list.”
Since its launch in 2019, Treveth has been building high-quality new build homes, sustainable communities, and commercial developments in partnership with Cornwall Council to benefit people who live and work in Cornwall.
Taking a lead on bringing sustainable new build homes to Cornwall, Treveth builds low carbon developments and strives to achieve challenging carbon emissions targets set for 2030. Treveth’s new homes at Gwel Basset in Tolgus, for example, are all net zero ready homes and will use up to 73% less energy a year compared to an average three bedroom house in the UK. All of Treveth’s subsequent schemes will be following this lead.
